As seen in:
Ruby Oak Nutrition is a safe space for adults and teenagers to get compassionate nutrition support.
We’re a group of Health at Every Size®-aligned, anti-diet dietitian nutritionists based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
You’re in the right place if:
You’re seeking eating disorder recovery but don’t know where to start.
You’re tired of obsessing about food and your body.
You want pregnancy and postpartum nutrition advice without a side of diet rules and weight shaming.
You’re having trouble breastfeeding and want at-home support.
You’re looking for a path to health that’s affirming and body-positive.
You’re struggling in your relationship wit food, and you need a dietitian who will truly listen to you.
Eating Disorder Nutrition Counseling for Adults
We provide talk nutrition therapy, meal support, meal planning, food exposures, and more. We help you challenge your eating disorder and find full recovery. We can help you navigate the tough transition of coming home from a higher level of care.
Eating Disorder Nutrition Counseling for Teens
We take a family-based treatment approach, which means we support both teenagers and their parents (usually in separate appointments). We provide structure for recovering at home, and can help you transition to or from a higher level of care as needed.
Intuitive Eating Nutrition Counseling
We help you work towards intuitive eating in a way that works for you and considers any health conditions you might have. Clients often come to us to work on things like blood sugar control, high blood pressure, and nutrition during pregnancy, because they love our anti-diet approach.
Lactation, Breastfeeding & Infant Feeding Support
Our lactation consultants (who are also dietitians) come to your home to set you up for success with breastfeeding, and help you work through any challenges you’re having.
Our Raleigh dietitian nutritionists offer virtual and in-person nutrition counseling.
We see people in our Downtown Raleigh office, and offer virtual nutrition counseling to clients across North Carolina and many other states. Lactation consulting services take place in your home.
Snickers is right: You’re not you when you’re hungry.
Let us help you be YOU again.
Why our dietitians are different
We’re not like other dietitians. We don’t encourage weight loss, and we won’t put you on a restrictive diet plan. We believe all bodies are good bodies, and our anti-diet nutrition counseling is designed to help you feel nourished, energized, and confident.
We listen. We get to know you. When you tell us about your struggles and challenges, we believe you. Then, we work with you to set goals and support you in reaching them. Our work together might feel challenging at times, but we’re with you every step of the way.
Our mission is to help you — and by you, we mean everyone — leave disordered eating behaviors behind and learn to nourish yourself without guilt, so that you can finally be the vibrant, unique, incredible person you’re meant to be.
We’re proudly in-network with most Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. Many BCBS plans cover unlimited nutrition counseling sessions at no cost to you.
If you have health insurance through another carrier (like Cigna, Aetna, or United Healthcare), we’ll provide super bills to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Many of our clients get reimbursed a significant percentage of what they pay for nutrition counseling.
“Working with you really changed my life. I was able to let go of portion sizes and just eat until I feel full.”
I was struggling with binge eating. I spent 70 percent of my day thinking about food, my weight, and beating myself up for letting myself go. I was afraid that if I told someone my weight or how much I ate, I would be looked down on. Working with you really changed my life. I was able to let go of portion sizes and just eat until I feel full. You gave me permission to eat. I remember one time you said something really small, maybe it was ‘that’s okay’ when I said I over-ate one day. Until working with you, I had never given myself permission to do that. — K
“You didn’t brush off the strict, sergeant-like side of my personality—you helped me confront it.”
“When I sought nutrition counseling, I was starving myself and had extreme food rules. Your honesty helped me snap out of the many years of rituals and rules. You truly listened, and you didn’t brush off the strict, sergeant-like side of my personality—you helped me confront it. I learned more from you than what I learned from my therapist as far as having a relationship with food and not going backwards. I appreciate you letting me have flexibility in exactly what to eat, since I know I would’ve taken it too far if you listed out a ‘diet plan’ or anything of the like. — LB
“I really valued your calm way of helping me believe that diet culture is bogus, and helping me challenge the food rules in my head.”
I came in struggling with orthorexia, not knowing what to eat, and questioning whether I was eating enough or too much. I’m used to rules and lists, so when there are none it’s hard for me, but I’m shifting. I really valued your calm way of helping me believe that diet culture is bogus, and helping me challenge the food rules in my head. The work we did together has helped me recognize food rules that I thought I had let go of (especially fear of carbs) and I see that carbs aren’t ruining my health. My blood work further proves that this is my truth. — JM
